Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Is acupuncture safe?
A: Yes, when performed by a licensed professional, acupuncture is very safe. All needles are individually packaged, completely sterile, and disposable. The room is cleaned and any other equipment used is sanitized.
Q: Does acupuncture hurt?
A: The needles used are very fine, usually not much thicker than a strand of hair. The needles are inserted to a very shallow depth which is practically painless. Many times, you will not even feel the needle be put into place. Many people even fall asleep during their acupuncture treatment because it is so relaxing.
Q: How many treatments will I need?
A: The number of treatments needed depends on your condition, including the severity and duration of it. You may start to feel relief after just a few appointments, but chronic conditions may require more treatments over time. Only after treating will Dr. Gena know how many treatments you will need and how often they should be scheduled. She will also recommend certain dietary and lifestyle changes, exercise programs, relaxation techniques, or herbal supplements to take that will help with your treatment.
Q: Are there different styles of acupuncture?
A: Yes, acupuncture originated in China but has spread to Korea, Japan, and throughout the world. In different countries, different styles have developed based on differing opinions as to theory and technique. Patients are welcome to talk to Dr. Gena about her particular approach in order to learn about the treatment being given.
